Evening primrose oil is the oil from the seed of the evening primrose plant and has a number of different benefits for women and even a few for men! Evening primrose oil can be used for skin disorders like psoriasis, eczema or even acne! It is also fantastic for helping with hormonal balance which results in milder and much more controllable menstrual cycles and menopause. Evening primrose oil is a very healthy vegan source of essential fatty acids which can help to balance hormones in the body which can help with weight management, fertility, reducing symptoms of PMS and menopause and reduces the effects of rheumatoid arthritis.

So what sets this fatty acid apart from another source of fatty acids like fish based omegas? Evening primrose oil is an omega 6 while most fish primarily contain omega 3’s. Omega 6 fatty acids are more easily found in the average person’s daily diet whereas an omega 3 fatty acid is not. What they specifically help with in the body differs as well. Omega 6 fatty acids are more useful when it comes to treating skin issues and imperfections and it is also useful for hormonal balance, and mood balance. Omega 3 fatty acids are more easily obtained via supplement but are also found in our day to day diet in foods such as garlic, fish as well as wheat germ and flax seed and is more specified towards maintaining a healthy cardiac system as well as aiding in concentration and memory.

If there was ever a naturopathic symbol for femininity it would be the evening primrose.
